Little Sprout Cafe Wins People’s Choice Award
The People have spoken and they have said: “Little Sprout Café is the best place to eat in Abbotsford!”
Staff were on hand on September 19th to accept the People’s Choice Award at the annual Taste of Abby event. The event, put on by Tourism Abbotsford, celebrates “Abbotsford’s agricultural roots and vibrant arts and culture scene.”

Winning the award was an affirmation for the Little Sprout team. Chef Kerry Martin feels the People’s Choice category is significant.
“It’s an unsolicited category,” Chef Kerry explains. “It means that people actually took the time to put Little Sprout forward and that means a lot.”
The focus at Little Sprout Café is on local, fresh ingredients prepared by a team of diversely-abled members. Microgreens are grown right in the café and ingredients are sourced as locally as possible. The café is a social enterprise of Communitas Supportive Care Society, which supports people who live with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and acquired brain injury.

Chris Karema is a program director at Communitas. He celebrates the efforts of Chef Kerry and his team and offered his congratulations.
“It’s all about their work,” Chris says. “Every day, they create a welcoming space and make food made consistently well using the freshest of ingredients.”
Chef Kerry agrees. He sees the efforts that his team puts in day in and day out.
“It reaffirms to our staff that their efforts have value,” he says. “Our staff contribute every day with their energy and their dedicated approach to making the best food and making people feel welcome.”

One of those dedicated staff, Abbi Palfrey, attended the Taste of Abby event as well. For Abbi, the win was an affirmation of her personal efforts to create community and connect with each person who comes in the door.
“I think the Little Sprout initiative has taken root in the people we serve, the people we train, and the people we welcome at the door, transforming our little community into a village,” Abbi says. “I think it’s something we’ve all been missing.”
Abbi was so excited when the People’s Choice Award was announced that she called her parents as soon as she got off the stage.
“Winning this award means the world to me,” Abbi says. “This is an event that I won’t be forgetting any time soon.”
Little Sprout Café is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. The café is located at 102-2776 Bourquin Crescent West in Abbotsford. Learn more and check out the menu at littlesproutcafe.ca
