As we considered our theme for 2026, we kept asking ourselves: “What does the world need today that we can provide?” It sometimes feels like the world is a dark place these days. Even though we have more ways than ever to connect with each other, it sometimes feels like we’re more disconnected than we used to be. That can feel sad and lonely.
But at Communitas, we get to connect with some of the most amazing people in the world. The people we serve teach us every day is that goodness exists in abundance, and all it takes is one small act of kindness to prove it.
As we thought about that we realized we had our theme: Kindness connects.
Small acts of kindness create big impact.

The great thing about kindness is that it doesn’t have to be something elaborate or complicated to make a difference. It can be as simple as letting someone go ahead of you in line, greeting a stranger with a smile, picking up the trash in a public space, or calling up a friend just to chat.
Just like a small stone thrown into a lake creates ripples, so our small acts of kindness spread out creating waves of positive impact. You may not even be aware how far your one small act of kindness may reach!
Kindness is a choice
How lovely that everyone, great and small, can make their contribution… and you can always, always give something, even if it is only kindness. – Anne Frank
The people we serve also teach us that anyone can be kind. It is not a skill that you have to master or a talent you’re born with; kindness is a choice. Anyone can make this contribution to their world simply by choosing to respond with kindness every time.
Kindness is contagious – be a superspreader!
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. – Dalai Lama
If we make the effort to be kind to someone else, that person is encouraged to also be kind. Before you know it, kindness is being spread around like confetti!
The great thing about kindness is that it is a positive, healthy, necessary thing that the world needs now more than ever – so our goal is to focus this year on being superspreaders of kindness! We will share our stories of kindness with you to help spur you on to acts of kindness too!
So here’s your first challenge: What small act of kindness can you do today?
