Creating a Home of Belonging
Daljit and Kelly Grewal have always felt called to create a home where everyone belongs, where people are safe, valued, and truly seen.
Daljit has a background in nursing and Kelly works with families who have been impacted by domestic violence. Together, they share a passion for helping people and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
It is why they decided to become Home Share providers.

Home Share is a community-based living arrangement in a family setting. In 2014, the Grewals invited Winni to be part of their family and just last year, they invited Dora to join them. Kelly says the experience has been a “true blessing to our family.” Daljit calls it “deeply rewarding” adding that Winni and Dora each bring something unique to their family.
“Winni is incredibly caring and shows so much love toward our children, which made her feel like part of our family from the very beginning,” Daljit says. “Dora has brought with her a joyful, bubbly personality that lights up our home.”
Kelly agrees.
“Dora, though blind, faces no barriers. Her hugs are unmatched, and her laughter fills our home,” Kelly says. “Winni is calm, patient, and endlessly kind.”

When the Grewals made the decision to become Home Share providers they chose Communitas because the organization’s values aligned so closely with their own – particularly the values of diversity, community, and sacredness of life. Sharing their home has impacted their whole family.
“Winni and Dora’s presence has enriched our home, our children, and our hearts in ways we could never had imagined,” Kelly says. “Each day with them is a reminder of God’s goodness and the blessing of living in love, presence, and community.”
Daljit says that Winni and Dora have taught them patience, compassion, and what it truly means to be connected.
“Watching Winni and Dora grow, feel safe, and thrive brings so much joy to our family,” Daljit says.

Having support from Communitas has also made a difference. Gaylene Norte is a Home Share Coordinator with Communitas. Along with matching providers with the people she serves, Gaylene and her colleagues support both providers and people throughout the relationship. This includes regular visits, helping to find specific community resources, and being available by phone when needed. Gaylene says that the Grewal family has been a blessing to work with.
“Daljit and Kelly are just caring, selfless people,” Gaylene says. “They are very focused on ensuring that Winni and Dora are living an abundant life.

Kelly and Daljit appreciate the support they receive, knowing that if they have questions or concerns that someone is always there to help.
“The support we have received from Communitas over the years has been truly wonderful,” Kelly says. “We are deeply grateful to be part of this caring and inclusive community.”
