I am Karyn Santiago and I serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Communitas and I love my job – and this organization. I have the privilege of seeing the very best in people serving other people as we walk alongside one another to support and encourage and lift up one another. Inspired by Jesus Christ, our mission is to create opportunities for belonging, growth and contribution. This mission aligns with my own values and it is not just for the people we serve; it is for each one of us, whether we are doing the support work, or being supported. I also love that, at Communitas, there is often no difference: sometimes we are the one in need of support and at other times, we share our gifts and talents to support others.

As a Communitas50 champion, I invite you to join me in the goal of raising $500,000 during our 50th Anniversary celebrations. I believe that we should all have access to equitable health resources – including those resources that support people to gain and maintain mental wellness. Communitas has been doing this particular work for over 30 years and it is something that we do well. Our peer support services, clubhouse, supported independent living services and other mental health supports are a testimony to this work. Yet, there are so many more ways we would like to serve people by providing accessible mental health resources in all of the communities we serve.
