Communitas “Moves” Across Canada (and back)!
Communitas Supportive Care Society is hosting a virtual fitness challenge to raise funds to support mental health initiatives and is inviting the community to join in. The challenge is to walk, run, or cycle 14,000 kms from Campbell River to Cape Spear and back.
“Move4Communitas is a fun opportunity for you to challenge yourself physically, have fun with your friends or family, and support a great cause,” says Sarah De Klein, resource development coordinator for Communitas.
The event is tracked through a purposed website move4communitas.ca where participants can register, create or join a team, and encourage friends and family to support their efforts. The website allows athletes to sync their personal activity trackers to the website to automatically keep track of their progress. There are also other incentives built in.
“For every dollar an athlete raises, they also get a kilometer added to their distance, bringing them and their team closer to their goal,” Sarah explains. “Along the 8-week challenge, we’ll also announce other incentives to keep teams motivated.”
Communitas supports people living with mental health challenges through a variety of services including Peer Support, wellness tools, and employment initiatives. The organization has seen the impact that COVID has had on mental health.
“The pandemic has revealed how difficult it can be to maintain one’s mental wellness when you’re in the midst of a global crisis,” says Karyn Santiago, CEO for Communitas. “It is for this reason that we wanted to highlight our mental health services with this event.”
Move4Communitas begins March 1st. To register visit move4communitas.ca today.
