At Communitas Supportive Society, we support and empower people of all abilities, from all walks of life, regardless of faith, social standing, race or ethnicity. We are looking for an Employment Specialist who recognizes that all people have significant gifts and abilities to offer potential employers. In this role, you will assist people with diverse disabilities in recognizing their gifts and supporting them in finding meaningful paid employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the discovery and assessment process by working collaboratively with a diverse set of job seekers
  • Collaborate with job seekers, using a person-centered approach, to discover their strengths and skills, and to develop transferable skills
  • Develop and deliver pre-employment training sessions and workshops
  • Cultivate relationships with potential employers within the business community to identify employment opportunities

Position: Permanent Full Time

Schedule: Flexible 35 hours/week, Monday – Friday

Wage:

  • Probation – $25.55
  • Step 1 – $25.88
  • Step 2 –$25.92
  • Step 3 – $26.18
  • Step 4 – $26.49
  • Step 5 – $27.09

Requirements

  • Community Support Worker, Employment Counseling, Social Services certificate or approved equivalent
  • Proven experience with supported, customized, and self-employment for people with disabilities
  • Previous experience supporting people with developmental disabilities as an Employment Specialist or Employment Counselor
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with the business community regarding labour market opportunities
  • Ability to be motivational and positive while coaching clients
  • Ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with Employers and Job Seekers
  • Ability to organize tasks, prioritize and manage time effectively in a busy and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage emergencies/crisis in a calm and effective manner taking all precautionary measures
  • Possession of an Emergency First Aid/CPR certificate, Class 5 Drivers License
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
