Christmas Day Dinner

For over 10 years, Communitas has been hosting a Christmas meal for approximately 40 people, already receiving services from Communitas, who would otherwise have nowhere to go on Christmas Day. Tables and a tree are decorated, and a homemade meal is prepared to create a warm, comfortable, home-like atmosphere. Games are played, songs are sung, and stories are told. As well, each person receives a special gift to celebrate the Season of Giving!

Hope

Hope gives the opportunity to temporarily support people who are living with a disability and who have not been able to register in a funded program.

Self-Advocates Group

The Self-Advocates Group is an open forum for individuals living with disabilities, that meets on a monthly basis. Their mission is to change the attitudes that some people have towards people with disabilities, to increase acceptance and build stronger, more inclusive communities. In order to do this, the Self-Advocates Group has several goals:

• to raise public awareness through education.
• to create a safe environment at the monthly meetings they hold.
• to enable talking and learning about important issues and rights.

The Self-Advocates Group networks with other advocacy groups in BC, to help respond to important issues that affect people living with disabilities.
