Accrediting body:

Council on Accreditation
Communitas has been accredited through the Council on Accreditation (COA) since 2005. COA's program of quality improvement is designed to identify providers that have met high performance standards and have made a commitment to their stakeholders to deliver the best quality services.

This accreditation is in accordance with the B.C. Government's policy related to contracted service providers. Communitas is accredited in the standards of Group Living Services, Supported Community Living, Vocational Services, Peer Mentoring Supports, Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Day Services.

 

Licensing/Credential Approvals:

Fraser Health Authority/Vancouver Island Health Authority/Interior Health Authority
The Health Authorities' Licensing departments approve the appointment of Communitas managers for licensed group homes (three or more people living in a 24/7 supported setting), and also inspect the same homes for compliance with Residential Care Regulations set out by the province.

USPRA
The US Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association provides recognized credentials (CPRP) for community-based mental health rehabilitation and recovery staff.

Certified Management Accountants Association of BC
This body, and its Canadian affiliate, attest to the qualifications of the Communitas accounting staff.

Vocational Rehabilitation Canada
This body attests to the qualifications of Communitas rehabilitation staff (RRP) for services within living and vocational settings.

 

Membership:

BCACL
Communitas, as an agency, has membership in this Association for Community Living. The British Columbia Association for Community Living is a federation that advocates for children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities and their families to ensure justice, rights and opportunities in all areas of their lives.

CSSEA
Communitas belongs to the Community Social Services Employers Association as part of a larger “table” dealing with Human Resource development and issues.

PSR Canada/PSR BC/USPRA
Communitas belongs to Psychosocial Rehabilitation Canada, and its affiliates, as part of a national conversation to develop and improve community-oriented mental health rehabilitation services.

BC Association for Child Development and Intervention
Communitas’ membership  in BCACDI ensures its participation in, and support of, conversations related to children in care, including children with disabilities.

Fraser Valley Brain Injury Association
Communitas’ involvement in the Brain Injury Association allows it to remain current in service development in this sector. Fraser Valley Brain Injury Association is a charitable organization that has been offering support and services to people with acquired brain injuries and their families since 1997. They operate in the Fraser Valley from Langley to Boston Bar.

Kitchen Table
The Kitchen Table is a group of service providers who provide sharing and mutual support related to living and therapeutic supports to adults and children with FASD.

Association of Mental Health Service Providers

This ad hoc Association of Mental Health Service Providers in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley discusses issues of common concern related to community-based service provision.
